Mako shouts "Bingeley Bongeley Beep! As the ancient prophies, and the rpwriting, foretold, it is time to engage in a little bit of jolly competition for fun, and also potential mishap, in the Annual Mayoral Race. No, not that one, the other one. The one involving feet and race courses. Mjoin me at s5 e0 if you wish to participate, or just watch the chaos unfold!" (Public-shout)

You sit on a street luge (it resembles a long skateboard) and zip directly there!
Fifty Million Years From Earth... (S5 E0)(#219RLJ)
You find yourself in the midst of thick, tangled woodland, with few
tracks to guide your way. Stumbling through the darkest part of
the forest, you suddenly feel an odd wrenching sensation, as if
something has pulled you over a threshold. You see the forest
getting lighter up ahead, and, pushing on, emerge into a narrow
gorge.
The scene is one of utter tranquility and peace, as if you were the
first person in eons to come upon this place. Between two steep
banks, a small stream cuts through a bed of ancient, weathered
rock, eroding it into an amazing variety of weird shapes. On
either side of the valley, creeper vines and Spanish moss droop
down from the twisted limbs of trees. The trees themselves
are...odd. They look like typical conifers and broadleafs, but
what species they are is anyone's guess. In fact, nearly all of
the plant life here, though certainly natural and vaguely familiar,
seems to be of strange, unrecognized species.
If you stay perfectly still, you may catch a glimpse of the equally
strange animal life roaming this valley. A few long-legged,
delicate creatures, looking something like a cross between deer and
rabbits, pass along a track beside the stream. Further off in the
woods you may glimpse a large, fierce-looking rat-like creature,
apparently on the trail of the rabbuck. If you're lucky, that's
all this monster will be after. Overhead circle birds: raptors of
some type, judging from their beaks and claws, but unlike any hawk
or eagle known on Earth. Somewhat more familiar mouse-like
creatures scurry back and forth in the underbrush.
If you're very patient, you may spot a small hole in the side of
the bank, partially hidden by some fallen rocks. If you're very
patient and very lucky, you may spot the hole's owner--a long,
furry snake--crawl in or out of it.
Plenty of stars shine in the early night sky even as they slide southwest. City lights give the horizon a warm glow, and the sky a dark purple tone. It seems to be about 10 pm.

It's that time again! No, no, not time for the leiderhosen. Not since the Incident. With election season upon us again, it's time for the third annual Mayoral Race! ... the other one! Our brave trailblazers have been hard at work seeking out new and interesting new locations to hold it.... <Images pass by, Pooka on the beach, one upside-down in sand, one building a sand castle.... Pooka in the forest, running from an angry bear...> And we're sure that this year will be just as eventful as last time! All mayoral candidates, and anyone else with a healthy respect for some good old fashioned exercise and competition, are invited to join me on Mar 23, Monday, at 9:30 EST (6:30 Server, I believe), at a location to be revealed, when we shall engage in some good old foot racing!

Mako has set up a starting gate, and a table of goods. Some are for the spectators. ... there's also a table with HYDRAMAXXX Sportsade, and some Mechanical Lubricant for mechanicals... at least half the candidates are beepy, after all....

Parka looks the area up and down. "... Huh ..."
Nina curls up on Niny'ah's other side. mrp

Mako says, "So, for a little preamble, couple years ago I got the Clever(tm) idea for a foot race between all the mayoral candidates. Cause it'd be funny. Several hazards and one heatstroke later, it absolutely was. :P We're on the third one now. The rules are pretty simple. Run the course, reach the end. Watch out for hazards. No flying. o.o"
Patashu looks at his wings. Ahem.
Parka nods as she listens to Mako.
Vahno says, "That last rule is enforced by attack helicopter."
Niny'ah says, "PI Vinylsteel bubble cannon, I presume"
Mako says, "The pooka have assured me the river, whcih runs alongside part of the course, is pirahna free, so swimming and or hydroplaning is allowed. :x"
Tss'Renia .wavs, "No flying?"
Mako says, "No flying. Cause up until now msot of the candidates haven't had the ability. And it kind of defeats the purpose of a foot face. (Also it's harder to come up with good hazards)"
Tss'Renia .wavs, "My sister in Hraesvelgr. Two of us are nuclear plants on stilts. Fixing the holes is that path is going to be the first order of the mayoral office. LOL."
Patashu laughs

Mako says, "Look, I work with what I got, and I didn't want to repeat the last two settings. >> At least this time there won't be any crabs!"
Vahno says, "No Gwen?"
Tss'Renia .wavs, "Man, I will have to put my limbs in the de/mat machine tonight."
Mako says, "Probably not..."
Tss'Renia .wavs, "Pata, remember that picture from zoidfans where the DiTCH needs high maintenance for the joins from shooting its shoulder mounted cannon?"

Tss'Renia stretches limbs, bounces in place thunderously. In cartoon vision, the whole world shakes around Ping, like the camera is normalized onto Ping.
Mako coughs. "Anyway. Would all runners please report to the starting line? The designated path is marked by flags. And we have a few eye in the skies.... *Drones buzz overhead*
Tss'Renia steps up to the line. "Do I need a straw?"
Patashu clank-pads over!
Nina exudes a few orbs of sky-blue light in bursts of holographic glitching. "More eyes in the sky! Also I can shoot to start off the race like I did the first time!"
Mako hah. "Sure! On your marks!"
Patashu leans forward, snorts steam...
Nina materializes a high-tech flaregun-looking thing in another burst of sky-blue holographic glitching. >:3
Tss'Renia wipes its visor clean.
Nina says, "On yer mark!"
Mako Steps up and takes a runner's position. She's been training! @.@
Nina says, "... get set ..."
Nina pulls the trigger! There's a loud electronic 'BZZT', startling herself! "... gAH!"
Patashu leaps forward, rawrrrrr!
Tss'Renia starts running like a weasel, which is to say, wrong program for the wrong body, but it gets the job done!
Mako Takes off!
( The first leg of the track is nice and easy, all things considered. It has to start somewhere, a packed dirt path leading into the deep woods... )
Patashu is keeping pace, no reason to push super far ahead - with how these races go, whoever's in first tends to facecheck the obstacles for the rest of us...
Parka considers a moment, and then gets up and starts running down the racetrack, her legs surrounded by aqua and violet light! So far, she's hanging behind the racers and keeping to the edge of the path.
Tss'Renia runs alongside Patashu, "Such a nice forest. Hope my rubber claws do not screw up the path too much."
You rumble, "Hey, if it's too bad we can fix it~"
Tss'Renia .wavs, "I think it might be less power efficient to run than to float, due to increased maintenance work, but hey, I think I actually never _RAN_ before. I had no functions for it that I had to borrow Aurora's code. Quickly optimizing, though."
You rumble, "You should run more! It's a lot of fun."
Parka, behind Pata and Renia, "It is! Can't wait to do it robotic-like!"
Patashu beams!
Mako is hoping to keep up. @.@
Vahno says, "Niny, do we have a hover thingus that can keep up?"
Niny'ah says, "My hoverbike, perhaps?"
( The first leg is always easy, it lulls runners into a sense of false security, as we head into the second leg, where the path goes alongside the river, and begins to get Very Muddy.... )
Nina projects holograms of various screens that her Ultimate Proxies are seeing for Vahno and Niny'ah.
Patashu uh oh. His claws are going to get and splatter a lot of mud around @w@;
Bianca arrives from Squirrel Park (S4 E0).
Bianca has arrived.
Tss'Renia seems unperturbed by mud, besides getting itself and Patashu dirty and reverting to a more slinky gait, "Mako, do you need us to slow down a bit?"
Parka has a very brief moment of going 'oh crap' and then starts sort of ... leaping really high, as if that will somehow allow her to avoid hitting the mud. Net result: she hits the mud *harder*, splattering more mud up. On her third jump, she lets out an androgynous-sounding yelp and briefly goes splat facedown for a second, before scrambling back to her feet, cursing and laughing.
Patashu giggles sympathetically!
Mako gets three steps in and sinks into the mud. Looks to the river. Looks to the mud. Dives into the water. "There's a reason I mentioend swimming!" She dolphin-kicks forward. @.@
You rumble, "Ooh, clever..."
Bianca says, "Hey, folks, what's up?"
You rumble, "The Mayoral Race!"
Bianca's ears swivel. "Right now?"
Nina nodnods to Bianca, gesturing to the three mayoral candidates (plus Parka) on the racetrack.
Bianca blinks a couple of times, looking between the candidates and Nina, then seems to get it. She sits to watch!
( The next leg intersperses between mud and hardpacked dirt, bending back and forth with vines overhead as Small Fuzzy Creatures give you a wide berth. And occaisionally throw fruit at yuo. o.o )

Patashu gets clonked by a pineapple. @w@ Ow!
Parka shrugs off her eponymous coat, and tosses it over the nearest Ultimate Proxy. "Take this back! I didn't think this through!" An apple whizzes by her head in her distraction and she nearly stumbles. "WHOA!"
Parka takes off her parka. [desc updated]
Tss'Renia jumps into the water to clean off before the hardpacked dirt, and, "Ow, what the beep? Hey Pata, stay close, I can activate the bubble shield and cover the both of us."
You rumble, "Sure, if you're offering!"
Tss'Renia activates the shield around itself and Patashu, "They should throw blueberries instead."
Patashu defeats the powers of FRUIT with SCIENCE>
Mako Appears to be picking up speed! She surges forward! "Ha-HA! I have the upper hand wait what." She appears to be picking upa a LOT of speed.....
Vahno says, "Bring me back a fruit salad!"
You rumble, "Uh oh, what's Mako up to now...?"
Niny'ah says, "Something Funnyfail, I suspect."
( The path now begins to go down, along a gentle slope that zig zags back and forth..... )
Nina, conversationally, "Shenanigans."
Niny'ah says, "Oh. Oh. Hovercat has no brakes"
( Please note that a gentle slope doesn't quite work for a river. )
Nina also belatedly augh as one of her holoscreens shows a view getting attacked by a parka.
Tss'Renia .wavs, "Well, if it was not cheating, I would just ROLL DOWN the hill with the shield, but that does not make use of my limbs."
Tss'Renia .wavs, "But that would also result in a game of Peglin."
( By this we mean that the gentle slope is a back and forth on land, and more specifically, a waterfall for the river. *Yaaaa-ha-ha-hooey!* )
Vahno says, "...Bye Mako!"
Parka tries to control her descent with her antimatter-fairy magic! ... It doesn't *quite* work and she ends up going over the waterfall after Mako.

Vahno says, "Rescue crew, Two. At the waterfall. The bottom."

Mako, now embedded upside-down in mud at the bottom, legs kicking. She's out for a round or two. x.x The Pooka on a Lakitu-Cloud is coming for recovery..... Meanwhile, the path is now reaching the halfway point! You can tell, there's a marker! There's also a rustling in the trres....

The vote is now open for Mayor of SpinDizzy! To vote, use the command 'vote' to enter the voting booth from anywhere in the world. This is an instant-runoff vote, so you should rank the candidates in order from your favorite to least favorite. If you would like to practice using this voting system first, then you can try it out using the just-for-fun vote "What is the best kind of squirrel?" which is also a four-choice IRV.
I used Random.org to randomize the order in which the candidates appear on the ballot.
The vote will close on Sunday, March 29, at 9 pm PDT (server time), at which time the winner will be announced immediately.

Parka's magic, notably, doesn't actually seem to be doing anything or causing any effects.

Parka clears her throat. "I'M OKAY!"

( Emerging from the bushes appears to be a rather large Boar! And a large boar... and a large... uh.... well, you have a small stampede. )

Patashu uh oh. Fleeing!!
Tss'Renia keeps going with the shield. "Poor fuckers."
Parka boggles at the stampede. "OHGOD." She hurriedly runs forward!
Tss'Renia's shield is set to bounce people off of it in a ridiculous fashion. It is bouncier than a bOeing with tailwind and microbust in JFK.
Mako is tugged free from the mud with a *Pop* and hovered back onto the road. She takes off. @.@
( The good news is, the next bit appears to be a straightaway, scattered with a few rocks here and there to make for rough footing... that might actually help with the chasing stampede. @.@ )
Vahno says, "...Flying pigs."
Patashu keeps pace with Reni...
Parka peers at the scattered rocks. And this time ... jumping really high *does* help deal with the rocky terrain!
Tss'Renia's marten node throws corks at the pigs, while the squirrel node improvises a cork gun with an elastic and some pencils. 'Take that you SWINE'

( The next leg runs straight into the treeline this time, and for some reason the boars stop dead with a squeal and scatter. You're fre and clear for now! .... right? )

Niny'ah sideglances at Vahno. "That's... concerning."

Patashu is big, dense forest is tricky. He ends up just tanking a lot of branches...
Parka is smaller than Renia and Patashu. She also seems to have done this before, and she has a reasonably good time not getting smacked or tripped up.
Tss'Renia's eyes widen, "It is dooking time". The creature's tree critter mode is activated. Shields are disabled and active scanning is enabled. Tss'Renia side steps and jumps about like a wardancing ferret, bouncing off from tree to tree as spacing permits it. If a tree is too small, it was a pretty tree while it lasted. Aurorae seem to be perticularly happy.
Vahno says, "...maybe we should alert the chopper."
Patashu woah! Reni has an advantage here...
( *SKREEEONK*. Well, that's new. Something out here just made a noise not unlike a Legally Distinct Godzilla. Then, a loud crashing noise... )

Nina's Ultimate Proxies get some good views for her holoscreens!

Aurora says martenishly, "Uh, nobody ELSE does nuclear warheads well."
[OOC] Ping hugs you each. Is quite tired, bedtime here...
[OOC] Ping waves, and crawls off to bed. "G'night, you all."

Ping is glommed down and swept away by a plastic hippopotamus mouth.

Tss'Renia follows Mako's lead! Getting around the monster. One Aurora node gets the plasma rifle out. It totally does not look like a sniper plasma rifle from fallout.
( The good news is, there's one leg left! You can see the finish line. And despite it all the Flameasaurus Rex is not exactly fast, it's just Big. But you have one final item to overcome..... )
Aurora-squirrel throws corks.

Parka careens past the finish line, staggers, and then flops facedown, arms pushed forward just enough to prevent herself from causing any injury to her squishy organic parts.

Parka lets out what's almost a gremlinsnicker, and then laughs almost hysterically, pushing herself into a sitting position.
[OOC] Mako says, "And if I haven't said, I do appreciate people showing up. ESpecially when I pull stuff like this completely out of my rear."

Vahno yelps and jumps up! And back down.

Nina doesn't seem to particularly react to Vahno and Niny'ah's antics. This is normal.
