Mayoral Election QnA 2026

BunnyHugger shouts "Hello, all!  In about five minutes I'll be hosting the (rescheduled) Mayoral Debate at City Hall ('park' or 'ch', whichever you like)!  Come with your questions for the moderator to pass on to the candidates."  (Public-shout)

        A floating disk, divided into pie wedges, with every colour of the rainbow taking its turn in each spot, approaches you.  You step on, and are carried away... by the time you're able to hop off, you find yourself in 
S5 W7 City Hall(#212RL)
     City Hall is a transparent, slightly dome wide-set at its base, with the swirling patterns of half-started spectrums swirling around the flimsy shell.  The shell itself seems almost to breathe, as it flexes in the breeze and the changes of the people around it.  A copper arch marks the most fixed spot and the easiest entrance to the hall.
     
     Around the globe a sparkling array of smaller globes cling to the exterior, each an office or a room or department, and these rooms swirl around as if to off-vertical ferrous wheels on a structure imitating a soap bubble.
     
     The park outside City Hall softly rises and falls, with spots of leaves and flowers of all colors popping into and out of being easily, and more rarely but still sometimes shrubs or bushes or even the odd tree makes it appearance, or exit, quietly but ever changing the light of the center.
        Plenty of stars shine in the early night sky even as they slide southwest.  City lights give the horizon a warm glow, and the sky a dark purple tone.  It seems around 9 pm.

BunnyHugger says, "Welcome everyone!  I'll invite the candidates to come up on stage.  Gwen, I believe, has sent her regrets.  And speaking of regrets, I'm extending an apology for the unexpected rescheduling of the event and thanks to the candidates for reassembling."
Lightspill grins and scoops Tss'Renia up in both paws, nuzzling her
BunnyHugger says, "I'm figuring to go until about 8:30 or when questions run out, whichever is sooner."

[OOC] BunnyHugger says, "Yes in real life, Austin and I and my parents all got sick this week, and with my parents that's potentially dangerous so I had to deal with that.  They seem OK though."

BunnyHugger says, "Here's how this is going to work.  I'm going to start by asking one or two questions, but after that, I'll be passing on questions anonymously from the audience.  I'll do them in order I get them, though I'll edit for clarity or to avoid redundancy or anything as I think is needed.  Also, of course, keep them positive, as we try to avoid negativity in mayoral politics here!  If I start getting too far behind I'll ask people to hold questions while I catch up, or if I think we won't finish all of them.  So just whisper 'em to me as you think of them."
Patashu nods!
BunnyHugger says, "I'll be reading a question to the candidates and they can all answer in any order as the answer strikes them.  It's OK if they want to react to each others' answers too, but once everyone has gotten at least one answer in I'll move on to the next question."
BunnyHugger says, "So there's no specific order candidates need to go in, no waiting turns, so we can keep things moving."
BunnyHugger says, "Years ago I used to rotate answering order out of a misguided sense of fairness but it just kind of held things up so we did away with that."
BunnyHugger says, "All right, so I'm going to start with something very basic, and in the meantime I'm open to receiving audience questions if you want to whisper them to me."
BunnyHugger says, "The first is this: introduce yourself, tell us a little bit about your background, and then say why you are running for Mayor.  ... You know, the usual intro."
BunnyHugger looks to Chitter who signals a thumbs up that mikes are working.

Tss'Renia .wavs, "My name is Tss'Renia, beep dragon. I used to be an inn keeper, but then became a robot and my home planet became radioactive due to war. I found out I had been nominated for mayor, and initially not sure what all I would improve, given we live in a wonderful and quasi perfect society. True to my nature, I would seek to clear space of debris and recycle the material, keeping a dark skies policy. Spacetrash can not only impact beauty of a good night sky, but it can also fall on our heads."

You rumble, "Gwen's running on a solid platform. As in, Spindizzy better be solid to survive. :3"
BunnyHugger says, "All right, so now I do have a couple of audience questions.  Feel free to keep sending 'em."
BunnyHugger looks at a card.  "The first one is this: VEHICLES: How do you feel about being them, and how will you share these feelings with the people generally?"
You rumble, "Oh man I need to be *so* many more vehicles. I just have no idea what the permission framework should be. Clearly we need races, fleet actions, demolition derbies..."
Mako says, "People can be whatever they like to around here. Being a vehicle could be handy for carrying more folk around. Not quite my thing, but hey, if you like to be it, nothing stopping you..."
BunnyHugger says, "Many years ago I wrote a super basic MUF for moderating a little demolition derby I ran as part of a World's Fair.  But all the vehicles were, like, old Earth beater cars."

Tss'Renia looks to the other candidates, "Being a vehicle? I suppose I have been one a few times. I do have the ability to share a stream of consciousness, but, err, only with close friends. If the idea of the question is asking about creature+infrastructure, I am in favor of mass transit. I think it would be difficult to find someone who is NOT around here. Being able to feel the vehicle would be an interesting way to make the journey more enjoyable, and may even be therapeutic. I am not sure if that was the question, but it is giving me ideas I would love to implement."

Patashu earfin wiggles. "I'd want to do some fun nonsense for Mecha Day and Adventure Day. I'd also like to open a new useful area on Spindizzy. I should have ideas..."
Mako hmmm... "I like to have Plans when halloween comes around. I already tend to handle them, why not make a proper To-Do of it? Beyond that it'd be nice to do another workshop or two, it's probably about time for them."

Tss'Renia .wavs, "I would love to have the spacestation become more developped, but also used as a resource facility more regularly for the production of things like latex for our inflatable friends and neighbors. There are a lot of medicinal botanical plants and trees available for everyone to use without constraints on resources."
BunnyHugger says, "I should add that if the audience wants to ask something specifically clarifying about the current answers that's OK to just blurt out."
Amy asks, "Are these workshops in-character or out-of-character mako?

BunnyHugger says, "Speaking of which, we have no questions on deck at the moment so feel free to pass them to me and in the meantime I'll ask a moderator question while people think on it."

Mako says, "Well, I've been wanting to do (IC) some cooking class or similar like things. Easy to join walk-in stuff, and (OOC) I am STILL planning a plot workshop to help people get things going. We've just had a mostly busy schedule so far lately. :P"

Mako says, "We've a discord and we have some ads going out thanks to people like Pata, things to improve, or fix.... Website needs some love, or at least an update pass, but that might be out of scope here. There are a few things I'd LIKE to see happen but they tend to be things we don't really have any sizable control over, like outreach or ways to help new folk engage."

It is usually a selection of three places on rotation, depending on who wakes up first. One day I went to the recycling plant, and everyone joined Claude and I shortly afterwards. It might be nice to organize minievents that put in value some under utilized areas."

BunnyHugger says, "Way back when, and I mean like 15 years ago, there was this event that was 'a month of parks of the day' and they changed the 'park' destination every day.  I liked it, but my recollection is that a fair number of people found it annoying because they found it was disruptive."

Hello!  I've opened up a silly Instant Runoff Vote ('What is the best kind of squirrel?') so that people can practice that type of voting prior to the mayoral ballot opening up.  I will be opening the mayoral ballot up tomorrow (Monday) evening and it will be open through the following Sunday, March 29 at 9 pm Pacific/server.
 
In this type of vote, you can rank-order your favorite to least favorite option.  That way if your first choice does not win, your vote will go to your second choice, and then your third choice.  Give it a try!
 
To vote in the practice ballot, access the voting booth anywhere with the command 'vote' and follow the menu.
